The Intern Trailer

The first official trailer has been released for a new American comedy film, The Intern, starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.

Director Nancy Myers (The Parent Trap, The Holiday, What Women Want) is back with a film that promises to be funny, entertaining and charming. The storyline is similar to Shawn Levy’s, The Internship, however from the trailer we can see that it will thankfully not be a two-hour advertisement for Google.

The plot follows Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the founder of a fashion-based ecommerce company, who agrees to a community outreach programme where a senior Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) will intern at the firm. So essentially, Anne Hathaway goes from being the intern (The Devil Wears Prada) to being the boss!

The trailer begins by introducing us to elderly intern Ben, played by Robert De Niro, who can we just say is looking great for 71! He is being interviewed by twenty-something Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) for the internship role. “Where do you see yourself in ten years” he asks a puzzled Ben, who quickly responds with a cynical, “when I’m 80?” setting up the comical tone for the film.

Unsurprisingly, Ben’s age seems to be the focal target for comic relief in The Intern, but this seems to be where the funniest scenes are in the trailer. In particular a scene where Jules helps Ben set up a Facebook account and another where Jules insults her not-so-chivalrous young male co-workers.

Anne Hathaway’s seems to play a rather likable boss, not like a strict Miranda Priestly, who warms to her new Intern and quickly becomes friends with him as he helps her believe she is good enough for her job. We think their friendship will add another likable dimension to the film, and will counteract the abundance of age related jokes.

Furthermore, the all-star cast, with peripheral characters including our favourite Girls actor, Andrew Rannells and Pitch Perfect funnyman Adam Devine, assures us that we will be laughing throughout the film.

The Intern is set to hit cinemas in the US this Autumn.
