Colbie Caillat: Anti-Photoshop

Colbie Caillat sings out against impossible beauty standards set by the media in her latest song Try.

The 29-year-old pop singer has won the hearts of many, including all of us here at Janes, with her latest single fighting back against the use of Photoshop.

In the song, Caillat urges women to ‘take [their] make-up off’ and ‘let [their] hair down’ and be comfortable in their own skin.

The accompanying video to the track sees Caillat and others stripping away layers of makeup. She peels off her false eyelashes, throws away her hair extensions and becomes ‘un-photoshopped’ as her pores appear during several close-ups.

The end of the video contrasts happy shots of the women minus makeup with earlier footage of their unhappy fully made-up, Photoshopped selves. If you’re looking for a feel-good music video it’s this one!

But wait, there’s more! In the lyric video of the song Caillat takes her positive message one step further by enlisting the help of her celebrity friends. It begins with the following personal message:

“This lyric video is filled with photos of friends, fellow musicians, entertainers and my amazing fans. I asked everyone to shoot themselves wearing little to no makeup – whatever they were most comfortable with. Myself included. – CC”

The response was fantastic, lots of celebrities got involved with the shoot, including: Sheryl Crow, Kelly Osbourne, Sara Bareilles, Natasha Bedingfield, Christina Perri and Hayden Panettiere.
