Is it just us, or has Drew Barrymore been pretty absent from cinema screens over the past few years? In fact, since the roller derby smash hit Whip It back in 2009, she has only taken on a few acting projects. So where has one of our favourite American actresses been?

In a recent interview with Hamptons magazine, Barrymore talked about her latest film, Miss You Already and revealed: “I don’t work in films and movies so much anymore.”

She explained that acting as a profession was extremely time consuming and meant she would be spending months at a time away from her children, which she was not willing to do.

“[Acting will be] every few years at best, and then I’ll just see how that goes. I’ve done two films in five years and even those, I was like, ‘Wow, I just don’t know how to do this right now with kids’”.

Her latest project, Miss You Already, is a British-American comedy-drama, revolving around a relationship between two childhood friends, Jess (Barrymore) and Milly (Toni Collette) that is tested when one gets pregnant and the other becomes sick.

Barrymore made a special mention to the companies she currently works for stating: “they bring me a tremendous amount of happiness.”

“They challenge the things that are important for me to be challenged with, like art and business, and creativity and functionality, and yet I’m being the mom that I want to be.”

“So that, for me, is everything,” she continued before later adding, “You know you can’t do everything.”

Miss You Already is set for UK release on September 25. We cannot wait to see Drew back on our screens!
