Top 5 James Franco Films

We have a lot of love for James Franco. Not only is he an extremely talented actor and filmmaker, but he’s not too shabby on the eyes too! So join us in taking a look at some of his best films to date.

TOP 5 JAMES FRANCO FILMS:

From epic survival adventures to hilarious bromantic comedies, it wasn’t easy to cut the list down to five, but check out some of our favourites…

5. This is The End

Also starring: Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Michael Cera

On just the ridiculous amount of Hollywood A-lister cameos alone, this film is great. Franco stars as a ficitionalized version of himself who is throwing a house party for a big bunch of actor friends. The film marked Seth Rogen’s directorial debut and he of course, picked real-life good friend, James Franco, to be in a starring role.

4. Palo Alto

Also starring: Emma Roberts, Nat Wolff, Jack Kilmer

Based on James Franco’s short story collection of the same name, Palo Alto stars Franco as a soccer coach who has a crush on one of his female players (Emma Roberts). The film focusses on stories about teenagers and their experiments with vices and struggles with their families.

Despite Palo Alto not exceeding it’s budget at the box office, it received widespread critical acclaim, with praise given to both Franco and Roberts for their respective roles.

3. Milk

Also starring: Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin,

Franco gained widespread recognition for his role in Milk, a fantastic biographical film based on the life of gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk, who was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California. He starred as Milk’s much younger lover, Scott Smith, and proved his ability to take on serious acting roles.

2. Pineapple Express

Also starring: Seth Rogen, Danny McBride

What’s not to love about this bromantic comedy? Franco plays drug dealer Saul Silver, who along with Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) are on the run from hitmen after witnessing the murder of a competitor.

As a side note, we’d also like to mention how Franco still manages to look sexy with long, unwashed hair. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for the possibility of a sequel!

1. 127 hours

Also starring: Clémence Poésy, Lizzy Caplan, Kate Mara

In at number one is of course the incredible biographical survival film, 127 hours. Franco plays real-life canyoneer Aron Ralston, who became trapped by a boulder in an isolated slot canyon in Blue John Canyon, in April 2003.

Franco’s performance garnered very positive reviews and earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 2011 Oscar’s, but sadly he lost out to Colin Firth for his role in The King’s Speech.
