Year of the Monkey: our fave celebs

Yesterday marked the start of the Lunar New Year, more commonly known as Chinese New Year. We have moved on to a new sign in the zodiac and this year happens to be the Year of the Monkey! Apparently people born under the Year of the Monkey are witty, intelligent and have a charismatic personality. They’re mischievous, curious and clever and have a knack for practical jokes.

We thought we’d go back through the years to bring you some fabulous celebrity ladies we love who were born under the Monkey. Enjoy!

Celebs born in the Year of the Monkey

Some of our favourite charismatic and mischievous celebs.

1956 – Kim Cattrall

Well known for playing the sexy Samantha Jones in the hugely popular Sex and the City TV show and films, Kim gave women a powerful portrayal of a sexually active and adventurous woman who doesn’t need a man to make her happy. She is loyal to her friends and courageous in the face of adversity. Proud and unashamed of her sexuality she encourages her friends in the show, and her audience, to be proud and true to themselves.

1968 – Celine Dion

We are huge Celine Dion fans here at Janes’ HQ! She’s a great singer who is truly passionate about her performing, her fans and the world around her. If you don’t believe us head on over to YouTube to watch Celine’s ‘Take a Kayak’ interview, talk about passion! Her thought for her fellow human beings and the dignity with which she has recently handled her own personal losses are something we should all hope to emulate.

1980 – Eliza Dushku

Well known for playing Faith, a rival slayer, in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer hit TV series, Eliza was a kickass girl who knew how to take care of herself and didn’t take s**t from anyone! Faith later mellowed somewhat as she became a more likable character in the show but, alongside Buffy (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), she showed a powerful representation of women looking after each other, themselves and the whole world.

1992 – Daisy Ridley

The lead of the most recent Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley’s character follows in the footsteps of Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia, providing audiences with a strong, brave, powerful woman. Throughout the film she constantly reminds John Boyega’s character that she doesn’t need him to ‘hold her hand’ – she is sassy, smart and strong. We can’t wait to watch her in the rest of the series!
