Still Alice Trailer

With Julianne Moore recently taking home the Best Actress Oscar for her outstanding performance in Still Alice, the Alzheimer’s drama is the film on everyone’s lips.

Based on Lisa Genova’s 2007 bestselling novel of the same name, Still Alice follows the story of a successful, intelligent woman (Julianne Moore) who gets diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

It is told from the perspective of the patient, as she slowly loses her bearings and identity, whilst her family struggles to cope with the impact of the disease. Alec Baldwin plays her husband John, and Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish play her children, Lydia, Anna and Tom.

The trailer begins with a happy family scene at a dinner table, with John (Baldwin) making a speech about his intelligent wife. Her character is then introduced with signs pointing towards memory loss, and she soon realises there is something wrong with her.

For Moore’s exceptional performance in the film she has earned universal critical acclaim, gaining five awards including a Golden Globe, Critics Choice, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and most recently an Oscar for Best Actress.

In her acceptance speech for her Oscar, she started off with a joke: “I read an article that said that winning an Oscar could lead to living five years longer…If that’s true, I’d really like to thank the Academy because my husband is younger than me.”

She went on to say how grateful she was for the opportunity and thanked all those that helped her along the way. Towards the end of the speech she talked about the importance of making a film about Alzheimer’s disease.

“I’m thrilled that we were able to hopefully shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease. So many people with this disease feel isolated and marginalized, and one of the wonderful things about movies is it makes us feel seen, and not alone. And people with Alzheimer’s deserve to be seen so that we can find a cure.”

After missing out on an Oscar four times before, we definitely think Moore deserved the gong this time round and we cannot wait to see her winning performance. See all the Oscar winners here.
