Room Trailer

Having just premiered at the Telluride Film Festival to fantastic reviews, A24 just revealed the full trailer for the psychological drama Room, starring Brie Larson.

Based on Emma Donoghue’s novel by the same name, Room tells the extraordinary story of Jack (Jacob Tremblay) a 5-year-old boy who is looked after by his devoted Ma (Brie Larson). Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy, playing games with him and telling him stories. However, their life is anything but normal as they are trapped, confined to a windowless, 10-by-10-foot space, which Ma has called “Room.”

Ma has created this universe so Jack feels safe, but the reality is, Ma was kidnapped by a man referred to as ‘Old Nick’ (Sean Bridges) and was taken to Room, the garden shed at the back of Old Nick’s house. Seven years later, Ma and Jack find themselves locked in the Room, and as Jack becomes more inquisitive and Ma reaches breaking point, she enacts a very risky plan to escape.

Directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Adam & Paul, What Richard Did) and also starring Joan Allen and William H Macy, Room will undoubtedly be a harrowing watch. With Donoghue at it’s helm, the script will be spot on, the only issue it could face is whether Abrahamson can translate the brilliance of the book onto the big screen.

As for the casting, there will be no issues there; reviewers have already praised Jacob Tremblay stating his performance is outstanding and that he is a “startling revelation”. Brie Larson has also been widely praised, and is now the focus of Oscar-related attention.

She was asked in a recent interview with The Guardian what an award nomination would mean to her, but she didn’t seem too fazed: “Any sort of accolade that can come from this is sort of a by-product…But God, I’m 25 – I’ve got a while.”

Room will be released in the UK on January 16th.
