Oktoberfest in London

Don’t worry if you’re not heading to Munich for this year’s famed Oktoberfest, because Janes in London can be part of the German fun without the travelling!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Oktoberfest, it’s the world’s largest beer and folk festival held in Germany every year running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October. Essentially, it’s all about drinking steins of beer, eating your bodyweight in bratwurst and having one hell of a party with a bunch of mates.

Bratwurst & Beers – The Frog E1

If you fancy trying out Oktoberfest in London this year, there are loads of pubs and restaurants taking on the German tradition in the next coming weeks. We recently tried out the special Oktoberfest menu at the Frog E1 and would highly recommend it.

From the 28th September through to the 19th October, The Frog will be bringing a taste of Germany to their delightful Shoreditch spot.

Delicious pretzels and … beetroot!

The menu is simple but enticing, there’s bar snacks for meat eaters and veggies, our personal favourites were the melt-in-your-mouth cheese doughnut summer truffle and the beetroot, beetroot and more beetroot snack (that’s it’s actual name). For something a little more filling, why not try one of their delicious home-baked giant pretzels or the utterly scrumptious smoked bratwurst with smoked onions and German mustard.

Wash it all down with specially imported German beer: The Weihenstephan Helles and The Weihenstephan Festbier. Both beers will be on tap for the three-week event, with a litre stein setting you back a fair-priced £13 and a pint at £7.

Bringing Oktoberfest to Shoreditch

Chef at The Frog, Adam Handling is keen to bring the fun of Oktoberfest to the streets of Shoreditch.

He said: “I loved the time I spent living in Germany. Their beer is amazing and I also love the simplicity of their foods, such as the pretzel. As a chef, I want to serve up those great German snacks that go so well with beer, but with my own little twist. There are lots of foodies and a growing crowd of proper beer fans in London, and I think this kind of Oktoberfest celebration will be perfect for them!”
