Average Jane’s summer playlist

We’ve put together a playlist of seven of our favourite songs at the moment. Have a listen why dontcha!

Banks – Goddess

Goddess is the title-track to Banks’ upcoming album out in September. The Californian babe has been compared to The Weeknd and Ellie Goulding and we adore this song for Banks’ sultry voice, incredible production and fierce lyrics.

Alt-J – Hunger Of The Pine

After the Mercury-winning album An Awesome Wave, we had high hopes for their first single from the new album and we’re pleased to say we weren’t disappointed. It doesn’t sound like it should work, Alt-J plus a Miley Cyrus sample? Really? But somehow it does and we have had this song on loop ever since we heard it!

Bipolar Sunshine – Deckchairs On The Moon

Are you looking for a song that musically represents a summer in song form? Then look no further than this delightful piece of interesting pop music. We were lucky enough to catch Bipolar Sunshine at Parklife festival this year and when the suns out and you’ve got a cider in your hand, so we cant hear this song without thinking about an amazing British festival! I challenge you to try and not have a little dance when this song kicks in (hint: its impossible!)

Indiana – Heart On Fire

Here’s what we know about the elusive Indiana – she is from Nottingham, she has sung to The Queen and she is really quite awesome! Her new single Heart On Fire is from her upcoming album NO MORE ROMEO out on 11th August, gives a great indication of the pop-infused electro records to come from Indiana.

Sinead Harnett – No Other Way ft. Snakehips

You may recognise Sinead’s voice from past collaborations with Disclosure and Rudimental, now she is releasing solo material with the help of producers Snakehips. No Other Way is the perfect introduction to Sinead’s laidback, r’n’b infused style, working with some of the best DJs and producers the UK has to offer, we’re sure to see a lot more of her in the future.

Warpaint – Keep It Healthy

We had heard of Warpaint’s work before, but we were really introduced to their awesomeness whilst watching their Glastonbury performance this year. Keep It Healthy from their self-titled album is the perfect slice of psychedelic rock from this four-piece band from California. We feel its important to mention they have that whole perfect rock chick style down, just a sidenote…

Vic Mensa – Down on my luck

Last up is our perfect getting ready song by Vic Mensa who is a rapper from Chicago. This is an unexpected release from Vic Mensa, and we’re excited what to see what he will come up with next.

Rhian John

I am 24 years old and currently working in an administrative role in Norwich. I studied Speech and Language Therapy at UEA and since graduating in 2010 I have been working in London, I moved back to Norwich in September for love (of the fine city, and my boyfriend!). I have no idea what my future holds, but I am looking into doing a PGCE next year to teach English at secondary school level. I enjoy drinking and socialising on the weekend and going to gigs and club nights. I love reading blogs and have them to blame for my ever growing make-up drawers and wardrobe.
