Amanda Knox Netflix Documentary

The first trailer has landed for the highly anticipated documentary, Amanda Knox. It’s been nine years since the murder of Meredith Kercher in the Italian town of Perugia and now Amanda Knox wants to tell her version of the events.

For those of you who need a reminder, Amanda Knox was twice convicted and twice acquitted by Italian courts of the brutal killing of her British roommate Meredith Kercher. Since the case first gained media attention in the days after the murder, the world has been divided by what really happened on that fateful night in November 2007.

Directors Rod Blackhurst and Brian McGinn and producer Mette Heide explore the notorious case that made headlines around the world.

This original series will feature access to key people involved and never-before-seen archival material. The film shifts between past to present, exploring the case from the inside out in exclusive interviews with Amanda Knox, her former co-defendant and ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, Italian prosecutor Giuliano Mignini and Daily Mail reporter Nick Pisa.

On September 9th, the film made its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. Early reviews of the documentary have discussed the atrocity of British tabloid journalism, for cruelly twisting stories about Amanda Knox to turn her into a devil-killer.

Variety chastised the media reporting on the event: “The film captures how the unreality of tabloid journalism has slid through digital portals into the mainstream, becoming part of the toxic air of misinformation that we all now breathe.”

Amanda Knox is just the latest in a wave of true crime documentary projects, but unlike Making a Murderer, or Serial, McGinn and Blackhurst aren’t here to exonerate someone who may have been wrongfully convicted. Instead, Amanda Knox herself reexamines the case that made perfect tabloid material to attempt to touch on a larger truth.

The Amanda Knox documentary will air on Netflix on 30 September.
