We know what you’re thinking, there are way more than five reasons to love Kate Winslet, but we felt it was time for all of us here at Janes HQ to knuckle down and decide on a top 5!
From her astounding acting, to her BFF choices, we have compiled a list of reasons why Kate Winslet is one of our favourite humans:
We cannot commend her enough for this, she has always been outspoken about refusing to allow Hollywood to dictate her weight and that in itself deserves an Oscar.
Most recently, in an interview with Bear Grylls, ahead of his new NBC show ‘Running with Bear Grylls’, the actress said she strives to promote a positive body image to her 14-year-old daughter, Mia.
“I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, ‘We are so lucky we have a shape. We’re so lucky we’re curvy. We’re so lucky we’ve got good bums,’ and she’ll say, ‘Mummy, I know, thank God’.”
Whilst descending down a cliff face, Kate thought it would be fun to recreate the iconic Titanic scene. Except Jack was played by Bear Grylls, holding the safety rope at the bottom of the cliff, it seems she trusts them both.
The clip speaks for itself really…
We couldn’t mention Kate without mentioning Leo. At the 2009 Golden Globes she confessed her love for him as a best friend. Then in 2012, Leo walked Kate down the aisle at her super secret wedding to Ned Rocknroll. Her children even refer to him as ‘Uncle Leo’.
Whilst we know they are just BFF’s, we will always have our fingers crossed that one day they will become romantically involved, until that day, a Jane can dream.
Kate is the founder of non-profit organistation The Golden Hat Foundation, whose mission is to eradicate barriers for people living with Autism. For her work with the organisation, she won the 2011 Yo Dona award for Best Humanitarian Work.
Alongside this, she has also narrated a video for PETA, asking consumers to boycotts restaurants that served fois gras on their menus.
Kate is the youngest actor ever to gain six Academy Award nominations. Her astounding performance in The Reader (2008), resulted in her winning an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actress. One of the things we admire about Kate is her refusal to be typecast in certain roles; she has played an eclectic mix of characters in diverse range of films.
