Vienna, Austria

Where: Rathausplatz

The tradition of Christmas markets in Vienna dates back hundreds of years and the city still boasts some of the prettiest in Europe. The largest of which, in front of the Rathausplatz is a tourist hotspot and Christmas gift goldmine. Stroll around the market with a glass of mulled wine, while taking in the aroma of candied fruits, cotton candy and other Austrian delicacies.

Krakow, Poland

Where: The Rynek

Krakow is the perfect city for a pre-Christmas break as it is very budget-friendly. The markets in Krakow are just as beautiful and romantic as others in Europe, but they wont leave such a dent on the wallet. Another plus is that usually they will be draped in snow during the festive season. The Rynek is filled with wooden stalls offering a variety of gifts and Polish produce.

New York City, USA

When: Nov 19- Dec 24, weekdays 11am-8pm, weekends 10am-8pm

If you are lucky enough to be heading to New York this festive season there are lots of Christmas markets on offer. Our pick would be Union Square to give you a real taste of the Big Apple. Wander through holly lined aisles and pick out a unique Christmas present for a loved one.

Prague, Czech Republic

When: Nov 28- Jan 6, daily 10am-10pm
Where: Old Town Square

The fairy-tale centre of Prague is the perfect setting for a Christmas Market. The market boasts a wide selection of Czech food and drink, including barbecued pork, blood sausages, Czech muffins, beer and mead. It also has a quirky choice of Christmas gifts such as wood-carved toys, glass-work ware, and confectionery.

Berlin, Germany

When: Nov 28- Dec 20, weekends 12pm-6pm
Where: Klunkerkranich

There’s no shortage of festive fun in Berlin, in fact there’s over 70 Christmas markets to choose from. Our pick would be the unique Klunkerkranich weekend market located on a rooftop which used to be a parking lot. Get a panoramic view of the city whilst browsing through the wonderful flea market stalls.

Tallinn, Estonia

When: Nov 20- Jan 6, Daily 10am-7pm
Where: Town Hall Square, Tallinn

Another city with a fairytale atmosphere, Tallinn Christmas market is one to be ticked off the bucket list. At the heart of it all is Estonia’s famous Christmas tree, surrounded by little wooden huts selling beautiful handmade gifts. For Janes with children, another hit is Santa and his reindeer who feature daily from 11am-5pm.
