From that famous skyline to the ever-present yellow cabs; Broadway shows to hidden Brooklyn dining gems, New York City really does have it all. Autumn is the perfect time to visit, so grab a few friends or your partner and head for the bright lights of the Big Apple.

4 Days in New York ~ Janes in the City

Here’s our 4-night guide to the highlights of New York.

Arrival: Day 1

Grab a famous yellow cab (use the airport taxi ranks and beware of touts) and soak up that skyline as you head into the city.
If you’re saving your dollars for hitting the shops, we love Pod Hotels – cute bunk beds, clean bathrooms and the rooftop bar view at Pod 39 is incredible. Want to treat yourself? The Sheraton is bang in the middle of the action.
Head to Shake Shack for a quick, but oh-so-delicious burger, before immersing yourself in the night-time atmosphere of Times Square with maybe a cocktail or two!

Sightseeing: Day 2

Head to Midtown Manhattan and soar 70 floors up the Rockefeller Center. (Save queuing time by booking in advance.) The views are outstanding – and the beauty of the Rock is that you actually get to see (and photograph!) the Empire State Building.

Brave the subway (grab a map) to the harbour and hop on the free Staten Island ferry. Give a wave to Lady Liberty – and once back on dry land take a walk up Wall Street, not forgetting to visit the famous charging bull (and his two rather sizeable…err…features!).

Finish your day by heading to TriBeCa for some fantastic Italian food at Pepolino.

From Park to Square: Day 3

Brunch and people-watching at Sarabeth’s in Central Park is a must – try their amazing Apple-Cinnamon French Toast (optional: pretending to actually be in Gossip Girl). Then take a stroll or grab a bike and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Wander up Park Avenue and marvel at the Flat Iron building, before rebuilding your stamina with an amazing DIY salad from Whole Foods Market while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere in Union Square.
Finish your day with innovative Latin cuisine and cocktails at Yerba Buena in the West Village – or for unbeatable steak and wine, head to Capital Grille.

Shopping and Culture Fix: Day 4

Whether you’re into high couture or high-street, there is no shopping quite like New York. From hot Abercrombie hunks to a ginormous Uniqlo; Cartier to Jimmy Choo – get ready to unleash your inner Carrie Bradshaw.

If shopping isn’t your style, get your culture fix at The Met, or head to Broadway for a top-class show (find your nearest Tkts booth for last-minute discounts).

Re-boost your sugar levels with a delicious cupcake from Magnolia Bakery (made famous by Sex and the City), and spend your afternoon wandering the High Line – a garden oasis elevated above the Manhattan streets.
Finally, end your New York whirl with dinner at stunning, super-chic ABC kitchen.

There you have it! Our highlights for a NYC short break!
