The perfect summer Gin & Tonic
Nothing beats the sound of ice cubes clinking in cool glass of gin and tonic. Luckily for us, World Gin Day pops up this month (11 June). We’re already big fans of gin here at Janes HQ, so we thought we’d share a few of our favourites for the perfect summer GnT.
Let’s be honest, we don’t really need an excuse for a GnT. It’s the ideal drink for a summer evening, weekend tipple or pre-meal refreshment.
Gin, glorious gin!
Gin is having its moment and there’s a wonderful range out there to try. So break away from your typical Gordon’s (much as we love one) and try some of these variations for a summer treat.
Adnams Copper House
Better known for their ales, Adnams also do a damn fine gin. Copper House has a really crisp, clear taste – perfect with the traditional combo of tonic and a slice of lemon so as not to mask the flavour of the gin.
Marks & Spencer, £37
Delicious but a bit pricey, this one is great to pop on a birthday wishlist – or give it as a present as the fab bottle means you barely need to bother wrapping it up.
Masters of Malt, £24.45
This new gin from JJ Whitley intrigued us with its promise of notes of parma violets. Don’t worry, it’s not sickly sweet, but a refreshing, sharp gin that updates the classic London dry if you fancy a change from Gordon’s or Tanqueray. We feel it should be garnished with a few juniper berries if you happened to have some in your spice rack.
Sipsmith Summer Cup
The Whiskey Exchange, £20.45
Sipsmith’s have been growing a steady following – we’re seeing their gin pop up at more of our local pubs and bars. So we were excited to discover their twist on Pimms – the Sipsmith Summer Cup. Infused with Earl Grey tea, it’s perfect for whipping up an easy summer cocktail.
Spirit of Hven
We’re pretty sure it must be pronounced ‘heaven’ because this gin is divine (sorry…). An unusual gin made in whiskey casks to give it a unique savoury flavour. Try it if you fancy branching out.
That’s just a few of our favourite tipples for a great GnT. What’s your pick? Let us know – @tweetjanes.
