How long have you been counting down to the first episode of the Great British Bake Off? Series 7 starts at 8pm this Wednesday (24th August) and a fresh batch of 12 bakers will once more don their aprons for 10 tense weeks of showstoppers and technical challenges.
Brightly coloured jackets and an unlimited number of innuendos are essential for bake off, but what else must we have? A home baked creation to enjoy whilst watching the show!
5 speedy baking recipes
Here are 5 fantastically speedy bakes that you can whip up before that 8pm deadline. Ready, set, BAKE!
1. Everyday Chocolate Cake – by Smitten Kitchen
This chocolate loaf is an excellent cake to add to your repertoire. The flavour is exactly what you want from a chocolate cake and it is really easy to whip up. Loaf cakes are fantastic because they’re easy to serve and can be made fancier with a dollop of crème fraiche or a scoop of ice cream. Great for a dinner party too!
2. Peanut Butter Cookies – by Joy the Baker
With just four ingredients, these cookies are perfect for baking beginners and take just 15 minutes to make, including baking time. Add chunks of dark chocolate to take them to the next level.
3. Flapjacks – by Holly Bell
Naturally, we must include a recipe from a GBBO contestant. Holly Bell appeared on series 2 and is still baking fabulous recipes all these years later. Her flapjack recipe couldn’t be simpler or tastier. You can also pretend they are breakfast food the next day – win-win!
4. Sweet soda bread – by Charlotte’s Lively Kitchen
Ever tried sweet soda bread? It is really easy to adapt the traditional savoury recipe, which is notoriously quick to make. This recipe, from blogger Charlotte, has almond and cherry flavours and is gorgeous spread with lemon curd or jam.
5. Scones – by Felicity Cloake
What could be more British than bake off and freshly baked scones? The ultimate quick bake, the less time you spend kneading them, the lighter and tastier they will be. This recipe by Felicity Cloake will ensure perfect results and zero faff so you can make that 8pm deadline.
