With the Great British Bake Off upon us once more, things may have changed but that doesn’t mean we aren’t just as excited! To get in the mood, we tested the rather gorgeous Smeg Stand Mixer and baked something ourselves!

GBBO - Smeg Stand Mixer Review

Yes, GBBO is back and as we all know, the show has moved from BBC to Channel 4. Gone is the wonderful Mary Berry, along with the mildly annoying duo of Mel and Sue. In comes Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, with Prue Leith coming in to replace MB. But back to the bake..

As with many new kitchen appliances today, particularly those of the Smeg brand, the stand mixer has been styled with retro flair and modern practicality. Available in a range of pastel colours and block classics, it will fit perfectly into any kitchen, and compliment your counter-top accessories that you already own.

Talking of which, the mixer comes with 3 attachments which serve different purposes when baking plus a lovely booklet with some recipes to inspire (in a number of different languages. We decided to try a simple cupcake recipe to test it out and we were not disappointed with the results as you can see from the pictures! Simple to use, and very effective, Smeg have worked hard to make this mixer a fine choice, particularly as there are many competitors on the market today. To attach the different accessories is easy, there are plenty of speed settings and it’s surprisingly quiet when in use. Throw everything into the bowl, and voila, a perfect batter is ready in minutes, allowing you the luxury of time to do other jobs (like clear up the inevitable flour mess). So whether you are aiming for star baker or simply enjoy some relaxed cooking on a Sunday afternoon – the Smeg Stand Mixer could be your ideal companion in the kitchen.

GBBO returns tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
