Beach Day Essentials
We’ve had approximately two consecutive days of good weather in the UK, so I think it’s fair to say that summer is finally here! If you are planning a trip to a local beach this weekend or packing for a holiday with temperatures higher than 20c than read on for our beach essentials!
First things first, if the suns out, you’re going to want some sun protection. I am constantly astounded by the prices of sun cream so to be honest I tend to go for whatever they have on offer at the time. However, it’s important to get a special cream dedicated for your face. We love this Piz Buin Face Fluid because it feels ultra light on the skin and dries instantly, so you are not left with that horrible greasy feeling on the skin, not what you want on your face in particular.
There are so many great bikinis out at the moment (and indeed every summer) but Primark have really outdone themselves with their wide selection on offer this year, in particular we love this Orange ZigZag design bikini because it looks a lot more expensive than the actual price tag, it reminds us of a Missoni print and it’s nice to waltz around in it and pretend that’s the truth.
We love how a hat can really complete an outfit, I picked up this simple straw hat at H&M and it hasn’t left my head all holiday. An absolute saviour on bad hair days and a great way to shield your face from the sun in order to cool down.
Need we say more about the benefits of a good pair of specs, they hide a multitude of sins. We love the rounded styles popular at the moment and ASOS have some great similar styles to the ones pictured here, and also the fun pink pair which are from French Connection.
Now obviously staying hydrated whilst in the sun is very important, but I don’t want to talk about H20 here instead I’m talking about water sprays, this Avene Thermal Spring Water is perhaps more of a luxury than an essential. This spray has many benefits including helping nappy rash and razor burn but we love to use this whilst travelling and whilst sunbathing because it is really refreshing, it also has benefits for sunburn, I.e. toning down the redness on your face.
A simple and easy cover-up is going to be essential for the beach, we love this simple black kaftan style cover-up from Primark, but we have also seen some amazing kimonos out at the moment, especially New Look and Missguided.
On the whole we couldn’t think of anything worse than a full face of makeup on the beach, resulting in us looking like some kind of zombie when it starts sliding down our face. We picked up this Bourjois CC Cream on a whim but has quickly become our favourite alternative to a thicker foundation, it seriously sorts out redness on the skin, if you get a red nose after a day in the sun this will quickly sort it out and even out your skintone perfectly. We found when using this on holiday we didn’t need to use any foundation on top, some additional concealer and powder and that was our base sorted.
Sometimes the stresses and everyday necessities of everyday life mean we can’t read as often as we’d like, that’s why we love to take a stack of our favourite reads away with us and indulge on them on the beach (preferably whilst sipping on a Mojito). Before we went away we picked up Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and And The Mountains Echoed by Khalid Hosseini, we have read previous work by both these authors and they come highly recommended, keep an eye on the site for book reviews coming soon!
