Spending the day searching for beautiful vintage clothes at Portobello Market is one of our favourite things to do on a day out in London. But as soon as we leave the capital, we also leave behind the wonderful quirky shops and their unique offerings – until now.

The Market Cartel: vintage at your fingertips

Do you easily lose hours scouring stalls in Spitalfields, Covent Garden and Portobello Road for the perfect piece to add to your wardrobe? Then, like us, you’ll be thrilled to hear about The Market Cartel, a new website bringing the beauty of London’s markets straight to the palm of your hand and comfort of your own home.

Portobello Market-meets-Asos

Dreamed up by Dani Smith, one of Portobello’s youngest traders, the online site is sort of like a Portobello Market-meets-Asos. As the first of its kind, The Market Cartel is set to help London’s local markets participate in the ever-expanding online shopping world. To get that genuine rush of finding a vintage gem, the site’s items are first come first served, so snap up your favourites quick to avoid disappointment!

Rare vintage fashion – whenever, wherever

Dani’s aim is to give lovers of London’s vintage fashion an opportunity to browse online, discovering the rarest finds from wherever they are in the world. It also means us Janes can scroll though pages and pages of hand-selected clothes whilst sat in bed with a cup of tea in hand – it’s ideal!

So far, over twenty Portobello traders have signed up, and there are many more flocking in, all eager to get involved with Dani’s new venture.

A market culture

It doesn’t stop there! In a recent interview with Style By Tom, Dani said she wants The Market Cartel – which she also refers to as TMC – to have no global boundaries, embracing a “market culture” for both buying and selling.

“I love the idea of The Market Cartel, because it’s endless, it doesn’t have to be restricted to London, it can be anywhere…That’s the rules of The Market Cartel, you sell on the market, you can be on TMC!”

On October 23, Dani will also be opening up a bricks-and-mortar shop in Hackney. We know where we’ll be heading next time we’re in the capital!

In the meantime, head over to The Market Cartel and feast your eyes on some vintage treasures.
