Pondering a poncho?
As the dark nights draw in and the mercury dips below 10 degrees, we need to suck it up and admit that summer is over (did it even begin?!). Along with all the oversized jumpers and huge scarves that have been popping up all over the place, there seems to be a poncho or blanket wrap everywhere we turn!
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Cara Delevingne and Sienna Miller are among the hoards of celebs wearing this trend and we feel like we too need to be involved. But where do you start?
We know what you are thinking…
How do you wear them?!
We seem to get tangled every time we try one on and it never seems to sit how you want it to. They are either too long, or too tasseled.
Does it replace your coat?
If you are wearing a blanket wrap do you need a coat? Do you have a tee-shirt underneath it instead of a jumper? These questions need to be answered. If you chose a thick enough poncho, you can get away with just wearing it over a nice jumper and being warm all day. What you don’t want is to choose the thickest poncho you can find and then be dying of heat exhaustion when you wear your coat on top. Decide: will this be more of a jumper or coat to you?
Plain or patterned?
There are so many different colours and types of material to choose from that it can be daunting to decide. We suggest you choose a relatively neutral colour, maybe grey or stone, and see how you get on. Going all-out for a bright yellow, fringed number might look great in the shop, but realistically, how many outfits will it go with? The Nordic look is growing and there are some great designs on the high street.
