Fashions come and go but denim is always in style – the cornerstone of many a fashionista’s wardrobe. So to give you a head start on what’s hot right now we’ve trawled the shops (tough job!) to bring you our best picks for summer 2013.
Premium denim is great. It shapes your bum, minimises your thighs and makes your legs look lovely and long. It will also clear out your bank account or max your credit card pretty fast. So is it worth it? Think about the cost per wear and get trying different styles to see what works best for you.
7 For All Mankind £220
Lucky enough to get these beauties for a birthday – even in the sale preview they were pricey but they are super flattering, the perfect summer wash and so classic that they’ll last season after season.
If blue jeans are too classic and you’re more of a standout kind of girl, these should be right up your street. Wear with a sleeveless vest, tucked in tee, pointy courts, an oversize knit, neon necklace, sweatshirt, slogan tee, biker jacket… We could go on. Upshot is, these are surprisingly versatile.
Paige Denim £144
Just how cute are these ice cream colour shorts? Fantastic with a tan (Creightons Fake Don’t Bake at Poundland is amazing. Seriously! Put the money you save on fake tan towards the shorts!), these babies will go perfectly with all your white tops – or mix them with other sorbet shades for a sweet summer look.
Current/Elliott are masters when it comes to boyfriend denim. This is the ultimate pair, beautifully distressed and faded – and if you can stretch to them you’ll love them for years to come.
J Brand £380
Yup, you read it right. These overalls are an eye-watering £380! Now you might not be convinced by the growing trend for dungarees/overalls/whatever you call them, in which case, definitely go with our budget option. But if you are ready to embrace it, these are the most fabulous we’ve found.
Best on a budget
Of course you don’t need to spend megabucks to get good denim. The high street offers a bewildering array of great jeans. They may not always be quite so spanx-like or cut so well and they may fade or go baggy after a while – but if you’re just tapping in to a trend (or if you get bored easily. Fickle, us?) then there loads of tempting treats to be had.
New Look £22.99
Gorgeous summer wash, high waist to hold in the muffin top – what’s not to like? Perhaps you’re less in need of the latter but it certainly works in my favour. And if you want to rock a crop top this season a high waist makes it soooo much easier.
Vero Moda £45
Earn your fashion stripes with these bargain beauties from Vero Moda. Surprisingly slimming, they’ll be a hard-working addition to your summer wardrobe and carry through to A/W 13 too.
Snap up these beauties in time for the holidays – they’re made for sunshine. Equally at home with flip-flops, bikini top and straw hat as they are dressed up with wedges and a shirt.
Florence & Fred £20
No need to spend £££ to stay on trend this summer – distressed denim and boyfriend jeans all in one. There’s nothing else to say really. Except why not, eh?
Top Shop £55
At £55 these aren’t exactly cheap but they’re a hell of a lot less than the J Brand ones. With this trend still emerging it’s possible you’ll get wear out of them next summer too. Give it a try!
What will you be wearing this summer? We’d love to know. Even better – tweet us a pic of you in your favourites.
