Our new Spotlight On feature is a chance to showcase two people each month that we think are worth hearing about. They could be our favourite musicians, comedians, actors, authors or business gurus of the moment – any new and upcoming talent, female and male, that we reckon deserves a shout out!

Spotlight on: James Acaster & Jack Garratt

This month we’re starting off with comedian James Acaster and musician Jack Garratt.

Comedy – James Acaster

James Acaster is an English stand-up comedian from Kettering. James made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2009 and has been a regular ever since. He has been nominated four times for the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards for best comedy show.

He is best known for his low-key style and quirky delivery. You may have seen him on the small screen as he has made various TV appearances on Mock the Week, Virtually Famous and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He has also been on the radio, most notably the 4-part series James Acaster’s Findings on mundane subjects such as ‘Bread’. Despite the ordinary subjects, James’ hilarious storytelling and common sense anecdotes will leave you wishing they were longer than thirty minutes.

James is currently on tour with his new show ‘Represent’ – make sure you go check him out at your local venue. Grab your tickets from his gig listings.

Music – Jack Garratt

Jack Garratt is a London-based multi-instrumentalist with an epic ginger beard. He began writing songs at the age of 12 and producing music in his late teens. He has been supported by BBC Introducing since he first uploaded his music in 2009.

His style can be described as smooth RnB mixed with electro-pop with some great tunes for the radio, the club or easy listening at home. He plays electric guitar, drums, keyboards and has a stellar falsetto voice to boot.

Jack’s debut EP ‘Remnants’ was released in October 2014. It includes ‘Worry’ which is a great upbeat electro pop song and his recent single ‘Weathered’ is a beautiful slice of thought-provoking music that you will want to listen to over and over again. If you like Ed Sheeran, Nick Mulvey or Frank Ocean then definitely check out Jack Garratt. His EP are available to buy on iTunes.
