Forget new year, new me. It’s all about new year, new TV! Let us help you out with our very special handpicked list of the best new TV shows coming to Netflix in 2017.
From the fifth series of Orange is the New Black to brand new Netflix Originals such as Santa Clarita Diet starring Drew Barrymore, there’s something for every Jane next year.
*This post contains spoilers about new shows and past seasons, so you’ve been warned!*
JANUARY:
A Series of Unfortunate Events, January 13
Based on the children’s novel of the same name, Netflix brings a ghastly tale of the grisly adventures of the poor, pitiful, orphaned Baudelaire children and their daring escapes from the evil Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris). Will NPH live up to expectations? If the trailer above is anything to go by, we think he’ll knock it out of the park!
FEBRUARY:
Santa Clarita Diet, February 3
Welcome back Drew Barrymore! She stars (and produces) in this Netflix original comedy as Sheila, who along with husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant) are L.A real estate agents whose lives take a dark turn after Sheila goes through a dramatic change. Look, we aren’t entirely sure what it’s about, but Drew Barrymore is in it, so what more could you want?
MARCH:
Iron Fist, March 17
For all you Marvel fans out there, there’s a very special show hitting our Netflix screens in 2017. Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, is a martial arts expert who uses supernatural (?) powers. Okay, we’re not entirely sure what he does, but it’s a Netflix-Marvel show about a New York City superhero, so it’s gonna be cool. Oh and Finn Jones plays Danny Rand, so you know, it’ll be nice to see him outside the Game of Thrones realm, particularly as *SPOILERS* he died at the end of season 6.
(PROBABLY) JUNE:
Orange is the New Black
In February 2016, the hugely popular comedy drama about a bunch of ladies in a federal prison was renewed for three more series. Hooray! So as per the past seasons, we’re sure season 5 will be hitting our Netflix screens in June 2017. But what can we expect from it? Well, if we learnt anything from season 4, it’s that no one is safe in Litchfield…could Piper be killed next?
NO DATE YET:
Stranger Things
In amongst the shit-show that was 2016 came a bright light in the form of a supernatural television series following the lives of a bunch of Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts on the hunt for their missing friend. The first season was a huge success with critics and fans, so naturally the second season was announced for release in 2017. We’re not sure as yet when it’ll be, but we can’t wait to have the Duffer Bros magic and Winona Ryder back on our screens.
Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later
The cult classic Wet Hot American Summer was already given the prequel treatment by Netflix in 2015’s WHAS: First Day of Camp; now, we’ll catch up with the Camp Firewood staff, you guessed it, 10 years later. We can’t wait to see the cast again, particularly if Amy Poehler and Bradley Cooper come back. Which they better, otherwise it may suck.
