It was only a matter of time until ‘Looking for Alaska’, John Green’s first young adult novel, got the cinematic seal of approval, and we are so excited to reveal that it finally has!

Looking for Alaska Heads to the Big Screen

With the astounding success of the film adaptations of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, and ‘Paper Towns’, it was no surprise that Looking for Alaska was finally given the go-ahead.

The plot follows Miles Halter, a skinny, nerdy boy who decides to leave his home in Florida to attend a boarding school in Alabama. Once there, he meets a sexy and mysterious girl, Alaska Young, who he soon falls head over heels for. The main characters are not too dissimilar to those within ‘Paper Towns’, but we’ll let that slide.

Miles quickly gets nicknamed “pudge”, as an ironic joke about his bony exterior and befriends unlikely allies, Colonel and Takumi. The mismatch group of friends begin to bond, pulling pranks on other classmates, drinking and smoking, until the day an incident changes their lives.

Looking for Alaska will be jam-packed with the themes John Green knows best: teenage rebellion, awkward romanticism and drunken adventures. Filming will commence in Michigan this Autumn, and Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children) will be in the directors chair.

We cannot wait to see what happens to our favourite John Green novel on the silver screen. Casting, will of course be key to telling the story, but if the leading roles echo the cast of The Fault in Our Stars (Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley) or Paper Towns (Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne) then we think Looking for Alaska will be in safe hands.

Skins actress Kaya Scodelario, is the fan favourite to play Alaska, one Tumblr user has even designed this:

As for Miles/Pudge, the fan favourite is Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), but there has been no conformation of who will be taking on the leading roles yet.

Whilst we wait for more Looking for Alaska details, don’t forget that Paper Towns will be out in cinemas next Monday (August 17th) watch the trailer here.
