If you’re on the hunt for delicious home-cooked East coast American food in London then look no further because we’ve found the perfect spot: Jackson + Rye.

We were lucky enough to be invited along to check out the fifth Jackson + Rye restaurant based in the heart of the city, which opened it’s doors in November.

From the outside Jackson + Rye looks like your typical London restaurant, but on the inside the lavish interior with its high ceilings and American diner booths sets the restaurant apart from others in the city of London area.

As for the food, the main menu boasts a fantastic range of choice, from burgers and steak to salads and fish, so we opted for both meat and pescatarian options.

We kicked things off with Crispy Truffle & Polenta Hush Puppies for the table which we scrummed down within a matter of seconds! Very nice little appetizer if you don’t want something too heavy.

For mains, we tested out a Jackson + Rye favourite: the Buttermilk Chicken burger and it did not disappoint. The accompanied spicy slaw did make the brioche bun slightly soggy, but the overall taste made up for it. We also tested the Roasted Salmon Fillet paired with a salad of warm quinoa, shaved fennel & rocket with a vine tomato salsa and that was tasty, too.

Somehow we managed to save some space for dessert and couldn’t wait to try out the American favourites. We asked our very helpful waiter Sameel for a suggestion and he said we must try the Melting Chocolate Brownie Sundae. It comes with a jug of hot chocolate sauce that he poured over the chocolate shell to melt it and reveal the sundae. Trust us, if you are a big sweet-tooth, this is the dessert for you. We also tried the Jackson + Rye Pecan pie which was also mouth-watering and delicious.

To wash it all down, Jackson and Rye has an impressive cocktail menu, a selection of American bottled beers, wines from across the globe and a unique selection of drinks specially made from rye – a big, spicy whiskey with wonderful complexity giving the true taste of old America.

Unforuntely for us, as Christmas party season was in full swing when we went, neither of us fancied alcohol, but don’t let that put you off because we tested out the Arnold Palmer- iced tea and lemonade- and it was very thirst-quenching.
