Best Netflix Shows 2016

Special Correspondents

With Netflix recently announcing their 2016 schedule, we are struggling to find a good reason to leave the house. Get prepared to book yourself in for some binge-watching duvet days as there’s a whole heap of exciting new shows and series hitting the on-demand service.

Take a look at our handpicked selection of 5 of the best picks on Netflix 2016:

Love, February 19th

A Netflix original that we are extremely excited about. Love is directed by rom-com genius Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and follows the typical premise of a nerdy guy trying to get the girl. From the trailer it looks like it has serious potential, striking the balance between hilarious and hip.

The Crown, Spring

Are you a fan of dramas about the Royals? If so, this pick is definitely the one for you. It follows the life of Queen Elizabeth over 10 hour-long episodes. It stars Claire Foy (Wolf Hall, Crossbones) as Princess Elizabeth and Matt Smith of BBC’s Doctor Who fame as Prince Philip.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, April 15th

This isn’t the first time we’ve confessed our love for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The hilarious comedy show will be returning to Netflix with a brand new series. The talented cast, featuring Bridesmaid’s Ellie Kemper as Kimmy, make the show fresh and funny, as well as the perfect winter pick-me-up!

Special Correspondents, April 29th

Ricky is BACK! Netflix announced they would exclusively premiere a new film written, directed and starring the brilliant Ricky Gervais. The film is about a radio journalist who starts creating fake war reports from a restaurant in NYC. It will also start the devilishly handsome Eric Bana (The Time Traveller’s Wife).

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, JUNE

Our love of this smash hit Netflix series began when we watched the first episode back in 2013. For those of you who haven’t seen it, you’ve got three amazing series to catch up on and a fourth being released in June. The third series was left on a huge cliffhanger, so we cannot wait to see what will happen next at Litchfield!

So there you have it, our top Netflix picks for 2016. Netflix also announced they will not be deleting anything from their servers, so all your old favourites will still be around! If you are a fan of documentaries, check out our post on the ones you must-see, including the epic Making a Murderer.
