April Culture Fix

Warmer days and lighter evenings have arrived and we have two bank holidays coming up in April, hooray! To make the most of springtime and the Easter break, we’ve been finding the best places to get out and about this month.

Lots of hot new restaurants are springing up in April. From the end of the month head to Exmouth Market, London for seaside-style food from Bonnie Gull Seafood Café. Promising seasonal British seafood to both eat-in and takeaway, you can expect crispy fish and chips, salty oysters, plump scallops and much more!

If you’re in Leeds on 17 April pop along to Gaucho to celebrate World Malbec Day – taste a variety of this deeply delicious Argentinian wine at the restaurant’s Malbec Wine Fair.

Our New Year detoxes are well behind us, the first quarter of the working year has gone – what better time to have a long weekend away? If you feel like treating yourself, check out the gorgeous last-minute hotels on Mr & Mrs Smith – true luxury awaits! Or if you’re in need of some travel inspiration, take a look at our travel guides for hotel and sightseeing recommendations in the UK and abroad.

If you’re staying closer to home, visit the The Glamour of Italian Fashion exhibition at the V&A to temporarily whisk yourself away to a world of high-glamour.

Need something to keep children entertained over the Easter holidays? Get them out in the fresh air at one of the National Trust’s 250 Easter Egg Trails taking place nationwide.

Or check out the Treasure Trails available across the UK – ranging from spy missions to murder mystery hunts, get involved with the story and see interesting historical sites along the way. There’s plenty of convenient pub stops for the adults too!

April sees the return of two of the hottest series on TV. The much-anticipated Game of Thrones Season 4 returns on 7 April. After the shocking Red Wedding finale to Season 3 (our eyes are still burning!) – how many people will survive the next series?! As long as Jon Snow (and his smouldering eyes) sticks around for a few episodes, we’ll be pretty happy – and we’re looking forward to Daenerys working her cool, collected charm too, dragons are definitely the fiercest accessory going.

The sharp suits and stunning dresses (not to mention copious amounts of liquor!) of Mad Men return for Season 7 on April 16. The final season (sob!) will be split into two halves, with the second half shown in 2015.

With the London Marathon taking place on April 13 (good luck if you’re taking part!) and lighter evenings kicking-in, this is a great month to get your fitness fix outdoors. Check out our guide to outdoor training – or why not take part in the Race for Life? Grab a few friends, sign up and train together for a great way to get fit whilst raising money for charity.
