Still looking for that last minute gift for your guy? If he’s the sporty type, you can’t go wrong with a good bit of sports kit. To get some inside knowledge, we asked the chaps at Average Joes to give us their top tips for Christmas sporty gifts.
They’ve shared three guides so far – including Booze, Gadgets and Sports – this latest ones comes from David, sharing some top tips on what your boyfriend really wants for Christmas when it comes to gadgets.
Recon Jet
If your Joe is the sporty type, there are plenty of ridiculously cool bits of kit on the market. For us, one of the coolest you can get him this Christmas is the Recon Jet.
Perfect for Joes who love their running or cycling, the Recon Jet is a smart-looking pair of sports sunglasses with a couple of nifty bits bolted on. On one arm is the computer, camera and touchpad unit, and on the other is the battery to balance the weight out a bit.
A screen appears on one side of the smart eyewear and can provide consistent updates on whatever data you choose to display, such as your speed, distance travelled and even maps which is provided by GPS.
You can grab a Recon Jet for £579.99. It’s not cheap but the technology is ridiculously cool. Check out more details at the Recon website.
adidas X Primeknit Football Boots
If he needs a pair of football boots for the new year, you might as well get him the best. And for us, these are the adidas X with Primeknit. They’re billed for the player who causes chaos on the pitch. Even if that’s not him – maybe just flatter him with the line anyway!
The revolutionary tight knit upper gives a next generation fit by locking the foot down to the X-Claw traction plate. The updated version also features a new collar and tongue made from one stretchable piece of Primeknit. The boots employ a 3D vacuum skin that offers unbelievable grip and protects the upper in all weather conditions to give Joes the perfect first touch, without limiting the comfort or the fit of the boot.
The adidas X Primeknit football boots are available now from the adidas website and are priced around the £225 mark.
Jabra Sport Pulse Headphones
We all need some motivation when we’re running and for most of us that extra bit of drive is provided by music. The Jabra Sport Pulse Headphones are perfect for Joes who want rich sounds without compromising on the training. With an in-ear precision heart rate monitor and real-time voice coaching, Jabra Pulse are the ultimate training earphones.
Downloading the Jabra Sport Life app also gives you an insight into your aerobic level with VO2 max and resting heart rate, which along with the in-ear heart rate monitor means you’ll always train in the correct workout zone. There’s even some optional personalised audio coaching which gives you feedback on your workout every step of the way!
They’re also very practical with play/pause, skipping tracks, volume control and taking calls all controlled by using the inline controls. They’re sweatproof and weatherproof, so there is no excuse for missing a training session.
The Jabra Sport Pulse Headphones cost £149.99 from various retailers including Currys.
Nike LunarGlide 7 Running Shoes
If your Joe needs some need running treads, the Nike LunarGlide 7 Flash Running Shoes are some of the best new models around with a lightweight, supportive fit and soft, smooth cushioning underfoot.
The LunarGlide 7s come with Flyknit construction which provides ultimate lockdown in the heel and midfoot. The three-layer mesh in the toe box keeps water at bay while providing support and breathability where you need it most. The two-piece, dual-density Lunarlon midsole features a softer foam core and firmer foam on the medial side for a lightweight, responsive ride with added support. They’re also extremely practical for runners in the wetter and darker seasons with a reflective, water-repellent upper which keeps you visible, dry and comfortable in dark, dreary conditions.
The Nike LunarGlide 7 running shoes cost £115 from the Nike website where they’re available in Black, Squadron Blue and Team Red colourways. Our tip – go with the Blue!
Game Golf Live
Playing golf can be frustrating enough for your Joe without having to remind himself to fill in the scorecard. Which is why we love the Game Golf Live, the industry’s first wearable, real-time shot tracker!
The Game Golf Live works with both iOS and Android smartphones and the idea is simple – the wearable device tracks and captures your round of golf and displays the data during and afterwards on your phone.
The device itself is a small, lightweight device that Joes wear on their waist. The only other bit of kit that’s needed is an individual sensor tag which is attached to the top of the grip on each club. But don’t worry, these won’t affect your Joe’s swing – they’re feather-light. Using GPS, motion sensors and near-field communication technology, the tags pair with the waist-worn device and your scores automatically record around the course. Location of the hole, club used, distance and accuracy are all stored.
Game Golf Live is available for £249.99 from various stockists including American Golf. It’s not cheap but we promise it’ll make the world of difference if he’s a regular on the course!
