Miley Cyrus sets up ‘Happy Hippie Foundation’
Miley Cyrus has recently set up the ‘Happy Hippy Foundation’, a non-profit organisation to raise funds for vulnerable youth communities such as the homeless and LGBT youth.
The 22 year-old singer, known for controversial shock tactics to attract attention, is now using her celebrity status for a fantastic cause.
She has teamed up with Facebook to create the ‘Backyard Sessions’, in which she’ll sing in intimate performances and duets with a series of artists including Joan Jett and Ariana Grande.
The purpose of the videos is to encourage viewers to donate to the worthy cause and raise awareness of the significant issue of youth homelessness in the USA.
In a statement Cyrus reflected on why she was so passionate about her new venture.
“As you get older, you start to realize what’s happening around you. You realize, ‘This isn’t the world I want to be living in.’ And you say, ‘What do I really want my life to be about?’ [Homelessness] is something that we see every single day. It’s like the birds chirping – we just ignore it because we’re so used to it.”
