Game of Thrones Season 6: the countdown
SPOILER ALERTS! Good news Janes, your favourite naked-walking, dragon-flying, Jon-Snow-killing show is back. Have we really been waiting a whole 10 months for this absolute gem of a TV show to come back in to our lives? Well, the wait is over as this week sees the return of Game of Thrones Season 6 on Monday 25 April, 9pm on Fox.
This season is especially exciting, as at the end of last series, the TV show caught up with the books, so no one knows what will happen.
So, what are we most looking forward to over the next 10 weeks?
Top 5 Game of Thrones Season 6 expectations
Spoiler alerts very much included below!
5. The White Walkers
Meeting these scary-ass snowmen is up there with one of those OHMIGOD moments of GoT. We heard everyone talking about how ‘winter is coming’ through season 1, but it wasn’t until season 2 that we saw the army of them emerge from the blizzard. We didn’t ever think they would come and we weren’t sure what they would look like when they did eventually showed their weird icy faces. Scary, is the answer. Will they show up in the first episode of the new season or is it too soon?
4. Cersei’s Shame
Yep. You forgot about this didn’t you. Cersei in all her naked splendor walking around the streets of Kings Landing while being pelted with vegetables, for confessing to sleeping with Ser Lancel. The annoying bell ringing and the word “shame” have lived with us for 10 months, so we are on the edge of our seats to see how she gets her revenge for being humiliated (and she hasn’t even seen her new haircut yet). We all know Cersei doesn’t hold back when she is getting her revenge.
3. The Dragons
These huge, fire-breathing creatures have always been a bit of a wow factor in the show and at long last they have grown up. The last we saw of the dragons, Drogon had just flew away from the fighting pits with Queen Daenerys clinging on to his back. This is a really exciting part of the show and there is something about the dragons that sends shivers down our spine. There is definitely more excitement to come from them over the next few weeks.
2. The Hound’s Return
Left to die on a mountainside during season 4, we are ever hopeful that Arya’s bestie will be fighting fit and eating chicken in a bar somewhere. No one has ever actually said The Hound is dead, so in true fan-fashion we still believe and hope he is alive, somewhere, waiting for the perfect moment to come back! Could it be season 6? Who knows.
1. Jon Snows’ ‘apparent’ death (please for the love of GoT, don’t have killed him off)
Ok, so even when it looks like the character is definitely dead, we fans still refuse to believe it. Enter, Jon Snow and his shocking stabbing by steward, Olly. This was such a shocking moment and definitely at the front of all fans’ minds as they sit down to watch the first episode on Sunday/Monday night. We are all used to characters being killed off but we all assume the main ones are safe (ok, the Red Wedding excluded). This is definitely the most exciting storyline we want to see play out through season 6.
There are of course loads of other storylines we can’t wait to see, like Theon Greyjoy and Sansa’s escape from Ramsay Bolton, but the show is too epic for us to write about it all!
