Angelina Jolie Pitt at Kids Choice Awards
Angelina Jolie made her first public appearance at the Kids Choice Awards on May 28 since having a recent operation to have her ovaries removed.
The inspiring actress decided to have the operation in the wake of a cancer scare and discussed her emotional journey at length in an article titled Angelina Jolie Pitt: My Diary Of A Surgery in the New York Times.
Towards the end of the piece, the 39-year-old actress acknowledged that her choice to have a double mastectomy was very difficult: “It is not easy to make these decisions. But it is possible to take control and tackle head-on any health issue. You can seek advice, learn about the options and make choices that are right for you. Knowledge is power.”
In her first appearance since the operation, Jolie seemed happy and content attending the 2015 Kids Choice Awards ceremony with her children John, 8 and Sahara, 10.
She took home the gong for Best Villain for her performance in Maleficent. Both of her children were overjoyed with the result, giving their Mum big hugs as her name was announced.
In her acceptance speech, she reassured young viewers that it was okay to be different: “When I was a kid I was told – like Maleficent – that I was different. But then I realised something: different is good. So maybe you don’t fit in. Be yourself,” she said.
“And when someone tells you that you are different just smile and hold your head up, and be proud. And as your villain, I would say, “Cause a little trouble. It is good for you!”
Jolie looked beautiful in a black gown at the ceremony; hopefully it won’t be too long until she makes another public appearance as she will be promoting her new film. She is directing and starring in an upcoming American drama film, By The Sea, alongside Brad Pitt, set for release later this year.
