Song to song trailer

song-to-song-1

The first trailer has landed for Terrence Malick’s latest film Song to Song starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman.

Terrance Malick, the director who once only made three movies in 25 years is continuing to make up for lost time with his fifth movie in six years, Song to Song.

This time around he’s directing a modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, which follows two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he dates (Natalie Portman) — chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.

With the film set in the Austin music scene there will also be numerous musical guests appearing. They include Patti Smith, Lykke Li, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, the Black Lips, Fleet Foxes, Iggy Pop, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The first trailer is a little confusing to say the least, but that’s no surprise considering Terrance Malick is in the director’s chair. Del Shannon’s “Runaway” blasts over images of Mara dancing with Ryan Gosling. It’s all sex drugs and rock and roll and a blonde Natalie Portman who’s almost unrecognisable. Oh and make sure you pause the trailer at 1.36 to catch a glimpse of Ryan Gosling (who apparently hasn’t given up the singing post-La La Land) in a leopard print sleeveless top.

With its fantastic ensemble cast, bands aplenty and Malick at the helm, we have high hopes for this movie.

Song to Song will premiere at SXSW on March 10. It hits theatres in New York and Los Angeles on March 17 and the UK later this year.
