So it’s that time when gyms are overloaded with the January-gymers and we are all feeling guilty about the cheese-fest last month. Whatever your exercise routine and wherever, whenever you do it – avoid doing it with make up!
Here, at Average Janes, we are aim to give our readers the best beauty advice in the business and this is a top tip you will seriously appreciate, forever.
Skin make up whilst exercising is a no-no. Your skin is a soft and sensitive organ and we do everything in our power to cleanse, tone, enhance and even out our skin, so why would we go and ruin it at the gym? When we are making the rest of our body feel fab, doesn’t our skin require the same TLC?
Top London super Facialist, Debbie Thomas says “When we get hot, several things happen to our skin. The first is sweating and the second is a slight relaxing and enlarging of the pores. Add a layer of even the best make-up on this and firstly you’ll end up with streaky make-up, but you’re also increasing the likelihood of a breakout. Your skin needs to breathe – during a good workout even more so. Mix in sweat, heat and open pores and over time the skin will become blocked. Not everyone will get spots, but most will get blackheads coupled with dulling and possible uneven skin texture.”
No. Thank. You.
The best advice is to keep it simple. Cleanse. Pre and post work out. Get those pores nice and clean so those crystals of sweat delicately (or vigorously if you’re a grafter!) cascade down your face. Allow that work-out glow to be your natural blush and wipe away the hard work with another cleanse before your body cools down. Those pores will close right back up all cute and clean to leave you with a perfect palette to apply all your favourite beauty buys once more.
Investing in a good cleanser to suit your skin is a must!
