We thought we’d do a little comparison of two of our favourite foundations that we reach for on a regular basis. Now we don’t know about you, but foundations are an item of our make-up bag that we don’t mind investing a little bit of extra money on, you need something that’s going to last all day with good coverage. Luckily, there have been a surge of high street brands that are giving the luxury options a run for their money in the foundation department.

Budget vs. Blowout: Foundations

One of our favourite drugstore foundations on the market is the Lumi Magique foundation by L’Oreal, and retailing at £10.99 it is an absolute bargain. It has a light-medium coverage and aims to illuminate rather than mask your skin. It leaves a fresh and dewy complexion that really does last all day and doesn’t have a cakey or clingy feeling on the skin. We’d say this works better as an everyday foundation, perfect for work or running errands. It works to cover the imperfections but it really lets your natural beauty shine through. L’Oreal have done a really good job with the packaging as well, one of the most appealing factors of this foundation is it has a pump dispenser for easy application, uncommon in many budget brands and perfect for messy types!

If you read any other beauty blogs online, you may well be familiar with the Laura Mercier silk crème foundation, but we thought we’d put our two cents in anyway! We absolutely adore this foundation, trust us – there is a reason for all the hype. It is priced at £33, which is a lot of money for the average girl and it’s not a particularly big tube but you only need to use a pea-sized amount per application. In comparison to Lumi Magique it has much more of a heavy coverage, perfect for a night out or those days when you just need a little extra coverage in order to face the world. It doesn’t feel cakey on the skin, and blends in well, even in the difficult to reach areas such as under the eyes or around the jawline. For a flawless finish, try it with the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer which comes in a really handy travel size, perfect for on the go!
