There are many things to love about winter: cosy nights at home with family and friends, bundled up winter walks and seasonal sports to name just a few. However, there are also some downsides, not least the effect the cold weather can have on your skin. The combination of cold winter air and dry indoor heating can leave skin feeling dull, dry and sensitive. Moisturising in winter is a must for maintaining healthy, beautiful skin.

Beauty Sleep: Nourishing Night Creams

Night time skincare products can do the work while you rest, enabling you to wake up in the morning with beautifully plump, moisturised, fresh-looking skin. When choosing a night time product it is important to take your skin type into consideration. If your skin feels quite dry by the end of the day, try a thicker product, such as an oil or cream for night time use. However, if you have a more oily skin type you might like to go for a lighter product, such as a gel or liquid moisturiser, to help your skin feel fresh the next day.

Get your beauty sleep: top night creams

Here are some of the best we’ve tested.

REN Clean Skincare – Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial

This product is a light liquid that glides on smoothly. When applied it brings a slight heat and tingling to the skin, so might not be best for more sensitive skin types. It’s much lighter than a thick cream but still left skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated in the morning. The only downside we found was the smell of this product, it was very sweet, a little too sweet for us. However, this would not be an issue for everyone so definitely worth checking out.

REN Skincare, £32

Laneige – Water Sleeping Pack

This gel has a fresh smell and is lovely and cooling. It’s the perfect product for skin that feels dry or tight as the cooling gel soothes sensitive skin. It has a watery consistency as it is applied to the skin but it soaks in quickly. This product leaves skin feeling hydrated and fresh in the morning. If you suffer from very dry skin it might be nice to layer it with another product such as the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil, mentioned below.

Kiehl’s – Midnight Recovery Concentrate

This rich oil is beautifully scented with lavender and evening primrose, oil so it relaxes you whilst also deeply nourishing the skin, making it perfect for use at night. As this is an oil, it can leave skin feeling a little greasy when first applied, however, if used just before sleep you wake up with perfectly plump, rejuvenated skin in the morning. This product is also great for applying over other night creams for an extra moisturising boost.

Fountain of Youth – Rejuvenating Night Cream

This rich cream is thick and deeply moisturising and left skin feeling plump and smooth. It has anti-aging properties and as a result works really well for smoothing out any fine lines and wrinkles, especially those that become more prominent when skin is dry and tired. A slightly thicker and oilier consistency, it is probably better for those with dry or combination skin.
