Treat Yo’Self! Our beauty splurges

Top beauty splurges

Let’s be honest, the British summer so far is a bit miserable and the news headlines are pretty grim – sometimes, we find we need a good old fashioned pick-me-up in the form of a pleasingly-packaged beauty product. Something a bit treaty that you enjoy pulling out of your make up bag on the train or in a restaurant. So we got chatting here at Average Janes and thought we’d share a few of the beauty splurges that we’re currently raving about.

Our top beauty splurges

See if you discover a new favourite from our recent beauty splurges!

Holly – Benefit Brow-Zings eyebrow shaping kit

My most recent beauty splurge that I am definitely not regretting is the new revamped Benefit Brow-Zings eyebrow shaping kit. It is a steep £24.50 but it is well worth the money. Matched to my eyebrow colour, the tinted wax shapes while the powder fills out my brows to perfection so I really look forward to putting my make up on in the morning. It comes in six shades (the previous version only came in three) and also with a little tiny set of tweezers and a great precision applicator brush. As well as this little compact, Benefit have released 12 other products specifically for the brows. Enjoy!

Sophie – Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant Stick

I don’t really splurge on beauty stuff… But fortunately my mam occasionally does for me which is handy! Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant Stick (£20) – I got this as a pressie from duty free and this lip stuff is amazing. It even looks pretty in its classy white and silver tube which is nicer than me cracking out a rusty old tin of Vaseline. But looks aside this sorts out your chapped lips, makes them mega soft and is SPF15 too. I love the clear one but they do them in other colours too. It’s pretty pricy for a lip balm but it lasts ages, totally no regrets with this!

Libby – Clinque Pretty Easy black eyeliner

As a massive fan of eyeliner, I’ve tried out many different brands over the years and have always been disappointed with their products. This was until I came across Clinque’s Pretty Easy black eyeliner. At £19 it’s not cheap, but it’s definitely worth it. Simple to use and long-lasting, there’s no other eyeliner that can compete with it.

Harriet – Joik Regenerating Night Cream

I received this Joik Regenerating Night Cream (€17,90moisturiser as a gift from my Estonian friend, who loves local and natural products. I’ve tried so many facial creams in my time, but this moisturiser leaves my skin feeling velvety smooth and actually calms down blemishes, encouraging healing. I loved the impact it had on my skin overnight, so I started using it in the morning too. Joik do produce a day cream, as well as a BB cream too.

Becky – Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm

Last payday I treated myself to Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm (£24), which I’ve had my eyes on for a while. It hasn’t disappointed – a soft, moisturising lip balm which cleverly tints and enhances your natural lip colour. This is perfect for keeping in your handbag for when you want to feel polished, but haven’t got the time or mirror access to carefully apply lipstick (yes, I’m thinking public transport!).

Nell – Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

One of my beauty items that I could not live without is my Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. It’s a really intensive skin moisturiser for soothing chapped, sore or dry skin. I use it as a really nourishing hand cream in winter and for shaping my eyebrows. It’s also a great lip salve and when I use it overnight I always wake up with a super soft, moisturised pout! Although it’s not cheap (£27 for 50ml) a little goes a long way and so it lasts for ages. Definitely worth the splurge.

Sophie – Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream

This was also gifted to me by my quite frankly amazing mam, who gave me her tube of Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream (£29.50, 30ml) after me crying about my random dry skin patches on my face. I’ve got quite sensitive skin and manage to get any rash going as well as my skin rapidly turning into dry crocodile texture the minute it goes under 10 degrees. This stuff is really good for skin prone to irritation so I use it when my skin is going through a rough phase or I just want to treat myself! You only need a tiny bit as it’s so rich and nourishing.

I actually use this more at night than the day so my face feels soft and glowing in the morning. It has extracts of rose petals which balance the skin and shea butter, rose petal wax and avocado oil to keep in moisture. Extracts of marshmallow apparently soothe redness… And after reading the ingredients it sounds like the perfect excuse to bury my face in a bag of marshmallows.
