5 easy ways to treat sunburn

summer-sunburn

If like us, you didn’t apply enough suncream at the weekend and now you’re left with some extremely uncomfortable sunburn, don’t worry, because we’ve found the best ways to treat it.

Here’s our top five ways to treat sunburn:

5. KEEP DRINKING

No not alcohol. Sunburn can leave you severely dehydrated, as it draws fluid to the skin’s surface and away from the rest of the body. So it’s important to rehydrate by drinking extra liquids, that help to replenish electrolytes. It’ll also help your skill heal.

4. COOL DOWN ASAP

As soon as you know you’ve burnt yourself, try to cool down the area ASAP. A cool dip in the pool or sea will do the trick. Or even a cold shower. But you should only do this for a few seconds, so you don’t prolong your exposure.

Then you’re gonna want to cover up and get out of the sun immediately.

3. MOISTURISE

There’s nothing better for sunburn that aloe vera. So smother yourself in it whilst your skin is damp to retain moisture better. Try to avoid petroleum or oil-based ointments, which may trap the heat and make the burn worse.

Repeat your aloe vera-ing to keep burned skin moist over the next few days.

2.WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING

There’s nothing worse than a bra strap on a burnt back. Ditch the bra and don a loose fitting baggy t shirt. If it’s your legs that have burnt, maybe it would be good to invest in some baggy shorts.

1. DECREASE INFLAMMATION

Take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, such as ibuprofen, to help with discomfort and inflammation. It’ll do the trick within an hour, trust us.
